Each student will be assigned their own Wow Writing Workshop senior writing coach who will walk them through Wow's 10-step brainstorming, drafting, revising and editing process. As a Wow Writing certified coach myself, I was trained by their team and ensure that they will provide excellent, high-level support to your child throughout the writing process.

I will be hosting two live student workshops covering the ins and outs of drafting effective supplemental essays for the University of Michigan. These workshops will be held on Wednesday, August 9th and 16th at 6:30 pm EST. They will be recorded. Students will be provided brainstorming work after each session and will be asked to schedule their own private, virtual meeting with me to discuss the topic selection and next steps. All final edits and feedback on the supplemental essays will be provided on the essay document and by email. A final proofread is included.

For each student's activity list, one round of recorded feedback and on-document edits will be provided.

The total cost of the program is $3000. Payments are divided into three easy installments. Payment #1 is due immediately after contract signing. Payment #2 is due on June 1, 2023. Payment #3 is due on August 1, 2023. If a payment is more than 48 hours past due, coaching services will be interrupted.

The senior writing coaches from the Wow Writing Workshop will be working directly with each student on their personal statement essays. I will use my admissions knowledge to help guide students' supplemental essays and other materials.

After completing their first assigned tasks, students will meet for an initial brainstorming meeting with their writing coach, there are two group meetings and one private meeting with me, Ashleigh Taylor, focused on the University of Michigan requirements as well as personalized video feedback for the Common App activity list. Most essay edits (for both the personal statement and Michigan supplements) take place on shared Google documents through "suggestion mode" as well as by email. Great question! Your child will have the choice of their starting week (very open schedule throughout summer but based on remaining availability) for the personal statement writing process. I suggest beginning in May, June or July. As long as assignments are not delayed, this writing process takes about 3-4 weeks (their calendar should be blocked off for 2-3 hours per day during this time). Students will not begin drafting the University of Michigan essays until the 2023-24 prompts are confirmed in early August. All materials should be completed by mid-September as long as your child follows the provided instructions but progress is entirely dependent on the effort put forth and their ability to meet deadlines. Although writing coaches will regularly follow up with students to ensure that their personal statement is on track, I will not be tracking down students who do not comply with the deadlines I provide for the review of supplemental essays, activity lists and the final application PDF. All students will receive group reminders regarding the deadlines for these items but if a deadline is missed, the student is agreeing to forgo support in that area. Please discuss this with your child as it will be outlined in the service contract.

The Common Application PDF is due for review by Saturday, September 30, 2023, and all students will have their final edits by Wednesday, October 18th, exactly two weeks before the early action deadline. The final PDF will not be reviewed prior to the first week of October even if shared with Empowered 4 College earlier.

Based on my Class of 2023 acceptance data, the University of Michigan is becoming even more strict regarding a student's academic record. This service is most beneficial for students that have a 3.8- 4.0 unweighted GPA who have elected a very demanding courseload between 9-12th grade. Keep in mind that grades of C and lower can impact the competitiveness of a student's application.
